Hi my nameis Sandra, Dr Sanja Purkayastha is an excellent surgeon, not only does he explain everything that he is going to do in detail he also makes you feel very comfortable and at ease. After having the weight loss surgery and was on the ward the staff were brilliant so caring and could'nt do enough for me. The after was also really good any problems that I had the answer was a phone call away. I had to go back into hospital after as i had a infected Gall Bladder but Dr Sanja Purkayastha was on the case straight away and got me sorted out A.S.A.P he was excellent I could'nt have ask for a better surgeon. I have got to go back into hospital to have my Gall Bladder taken out but I am not at all nervous as I'm under Dr Sanja Purkayastha care and I know that it will go well !!!! I would recommend this surgeon toanybody and am so pleased that he is going to be doing my next surgery. Thank you so much Sanja for everything you have done and are going to do. My life is so much better after my weight loss i can do so much more than i could ever do you have given me my life back I cannot thank you enough.

I found Mr Sanjay Purkayastha very professional and really friendly, making me feel very, comfortable and putting me at ease.
Mr Sanjay Purkayastha went though the procedure, making me feel, even more comfortable about the procedure, and about the operation. I was about to have.
The aftercare treatment. I received from Mr Sanjay Purkayastha and staff, was excellent. Mr Sanjay Purkayastha made it care. if. I had any concerns or problems. that he is always available.
I would not hesitate,to recommend Mr Sanjay Purkayastha and and his team at St Mary Hospital. for the way, they help me get, though this journey. I can only say. Thank You.

Was seen promptly on arrival at the hospital and was fully informed of the condition I was reporting and how the matter would be treated. Very impressed with the diagnosis and explanation of what will happen next. Was given a pack on how I would be treated so I can review at home and how the hospital will proceed with the matter. Very good service and I am fully reassured that I am in competent hands.

I was very, very apprehensive prior to surgery. Dr Purkayastha completely put me at ease. He explained the procedure in detail and arranged additional meetings with the other health care professionals that were required. The procedure was a complete success and everything that Dr Purkayastha predicted, has come to pass. I felt cared and in very safe hands.
I even had the additional comfort of my daughter, a year 3 medical student, seeing Dr Purkayastha carry out the same procedure on another patient. She was against bariatric surgery at first, but after seeing this was very much in favour of it.
I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Dr Purkayastha to any prospective patient. I cannot think of any other surgeon who instills greater confidence in me.

Mr. Perkayastha was amazing. The moment he came to speak to me about my emergency surgery, me and my family felt such relief and confident that I was in good hands. He was incredibly attentive, explained everything in layman's terms, comforting, and best of all, continued the same high level of care and frequent attention all throughout my stay in the hospital even to the last day, a Saturday.

Sanjay Purkayastha is a Consultant General Surgeon with a specialist interest in Bariatric & Upper GI Surgery. He is also a Clinical Senior Lecturer (associate professor) at Imperial College, London.
His research interests are varied and include surgical education especially digital mobile technologies, clinical research in bariatric and metabolic surgery, assessing the health of healthcare organizations, single port laparoscopic surgery and surgical evidence synthesis.
He has a busy general surgery practice both for elective (planned) surgery and emergencies which include working as a trauma surgeon in one on London's busiest Major Trauma Centres at St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington, London. He was also one of the first surgeons in the UK to carry out robotic Bariatric surgery.
He has been the consistently highest volume surgeon at the Imperial Weight Centre which is a Tier 3 and Tier 4 service for weight loss management and surgery for obesity. He routinely carries out gastric bands, sleeve gastrectomies and gastric bypasses all laparoscopically (key hole surgery); as well as carrying out revisional bariatric surgery and providing second opinions for complex cases from other centres.
Mr. Purkayastha provides all his Bariatric data to the NBSR (National Bariatric Surgery Registry) as he is a believer of transparency of results and outcome/volume based surgery ensuring the safest and best results for patients.
Mr. Purkayastha is also collaborating with teams to introduce artificial intelligence and machine learning systems into the operating room environment to improve outcomes and was the first surgeon to do this live in the operating room in 2018.
His general surgery practice includes laparoscopic surgery for hernias of all kinds, gall bladder surgery and anti-reflux surgery (surgery for treatment of severe heartburn) as well as emergency surgery work outside trauma that includes management of conditions such as appendicitis, gallstones, pancreatitis, bowel obstruction, hernia emergencies and the management of many other conditions that present with abdominal pain.
His NHS practice is at St. Mary's Hospital, Praed Street, London and he also sees patients there privately on request in the Lindo Wing where Prince George was born in 2013 and Princess Charlotte born in 2015.
